چکیده

I have just three minor comments. 1. I did not get a feeling for the significance of the results shown in Fig. 6 which show discrepancies between 3D and 2D magnetic field treatment of up to +/-7K in the tropics. This sounds a lot and makes me wonder if modelling from 2D is in fact useless for these higher channels. A question is how does this compare to variance with respect to climate in observation space at these altitudes / region? If this is less than 7 K then the observation error if processed with a 2D magnetic field is large compared to the climatology error, meaning the information content of the obs even against climatology is small. This would imply to use these data we need to use a 3D field. So its important to get a feel for this. NWP models are pushing higher and the time will come when they beat climatology by some margin. So I would like to understand the relative size of these three errors: climatology, current and potential future NWP, and observation error with 2D and 3D fields. I think such information would further enhance the usefulness of the paper.

Interactive comment on “Modeling the Zeeman effect in high altitude SSMIS channels for numerical weather prediction profiles: comparing a fast model and a line-by-line model” by R. Larsson et al

This paper presents an interesting comparative study between a fast radiative transfer model (RTTOV) and a reference (line by line) model (ARTS) for the high altitude channels 19-22 of SSMIS. The simulations have been performed using globally distributed numerical weather prediction model profiles from MetOffice. One of the main problems present in the study is that these atmospheric profiles o...

A simple Analytical model for solidification cooling rate based on the local heat flux density

A new simple analytical model for prediction of cooling rate in the solidification process based on the local heat flux density extracted during solidification is introduced. In the modeling procedure, a solidifying control volume is considered in the mushy zone in which a heat balance equation is used to derive the present model. As the local heat flux density is a measurable parameter, the pr...

Improving Regional Forecast by Assimilating Atmospheric InfraRed Sounder (AIRS) Profiles into WRF model

The use of state-of-the-art hyperspectral sensors--such as the Atmospheric InfraRed Sounder (AIRS) on NASA’s polar-orbiting Aqua satellite--to retrieve high vertical resolution thermodynamic profiles and their subsequent assimilation into forecast models holds promise in improving weather predictions. This improved vertical resolution over previous capabilities results from the use of thousands...

Reconstruction Glacier Circus in volcanic craters (Case study Kurdistan Qorveh)

Extended abstract Introduction The attention of forefront foreign researchers has focused on glacier circus. Glacial cirque is the most important pattern of glacial erosion. Deep depressions with steep walls, flat floor or low slope, half-bowl shaped (crescent shaped) are created at high altitudes in the mountains margin by the erosion of mountain glacier (Ahmadi, Feiznia, 2012). Th...

Numerical Modeling of a Metamaterial Biosensor for Cancer Tissues Detection

In this paper, the numerical design and simulate a biosensor to detect tumors and cancerous tissues by using metamaterial structures in the microwave regime are presented. The presented structure consists of a microstrip transmission line and a split ring resonator (SRR) that form a bandpass filter and has a unique resonance frequency. Given that cancerous tissues have larger volumes of water t...
